Arik Levy
This Israeli artist based in Paris works simultaneously in design and art. He is one of the most prominent personalities in both fields today. In the field of design, he has already contributed to a long line of innovative furniture and interior accessories (e.g. for companies such as Baccarat, Vitra, Ligne Roset).
In 2009, Swarovski dedicated a solo exhibition to him in Milan. He also regularly attracts attention with his objects at the prestigious Design Miami fair, which focuses on “art design”, i.e. highly valued and sought-after objects (unique or in small limited editions) that hover at the borderline between art and design. Particularly notable are Levy’s Rocks and Craters series. These monumental crystalline objects, whether in polished stainless steel or marble, mirrored stones, or wooden polygonal or even wire structures, look like mysterious meteorites. They are timeless sculptures installed indoors, on the terrace or in the garden, bearing the magical power of ancient obelisks or ancient menhirs. They connect the present with the past and the future. Levy’s objects are part of many private collections and renowned museums (e.g. Centre Pompidou in Paris, Victoria & Albert Museum in London, MoMA in New York).
Arik Levy’s first solo exhibition in Prague, “Intuitive Reactions”, took place at the Praguekabinet from 14 May to 15 July 2015.
